From January 2012 dogs, cats and ferrets can enter the UK from Thailand with no quarantine (ignore blogs and forums prior to 2012). We are currently planning this for our cat moo ping and will update as we go through the processes. Travelling with Pets is surprisingly easy.
Full specifications on travelling with pets can be found on the DEFRA Pet Travel Scheme website. I have posted below the info necessary for Thailand. There are six steps to take in preparing your pet for the journey:
Step 1 – Have your pet microchipped.
Step 2 – Have your pet vaccinated against rabies.
Step 3 – Have blood test for the pet (at least 30 days after vaccination). This must be 3 months before travelling to the UK.
Step 4 – Get pet travel documentation (official third country veterinary certificate).
Step 5 – Tapeworm treatment (dogs only). Not less than 24 hours and no more than 120 hours before scheduled arrival in UK.
Step 6 – Arrange travel with an approved transport company on an authorised route. From Bangkok to London the approved transport carriers are either and only Thai Airways or British Airways. The pet will fly in cargo.
